Homework and Assignments are valuable tools that help students make the most of their experience in school. Homework helps reinforce what has been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive study habits.
Homework Policy
Please carefully read this section and discuss it with your child.
Each week students will bring home a "Take-Home Folder". The Take-Home Folder will have activities to complete. Please complete work inside the folder. I encourage that student's read on a regular basis. Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. Children are to write down homework assignments on their weekly parent'homework letter. I expect students to try their best on each homework assignment. All written work must be completed in pencil. Homework is to be completely finished by the due date. Children are to bring their needed books and materials home with them. Then return them to school the following day. I will support good homework habits by giving praise and other incentives.
Incomplete homework may be completed during the students' free time (i.e. recess and/or activity). They also may lose certain privileges. Incomplete homework/assignment will not be accepted 3 days after due date, unless otherwise approved. If there is a legitimate reason why a student is unable to finish an assignment, please send a note to me on or before the date the homework is due stating the reason it will not be or was not completed. The signature of the parent or guardian must be present in order for the excuse to be accepted.
What are parents'/guardians' homework responsibilities?
Parents/guardians are the key to making homework a positive experience for their children. Therefore, I ask that you make homework a top priority at home, provide necessary supplies and a quiet homework environment, set aside a time everyday to complete assignments, provide praise and support. Parents/Guardians need to aid your child with activities, have your child read on a nightly basis and sign nightly as indicated that homework is complete. It is a good idea to establish with your child a defined place to assemble materials to be returned to school the next day. If your child cannot complete an assignment by the due date, please send a note so I can excuse the missing assignment and adjust the deadline.
